Today was a special day because we had no scheduled
activities. This meant that we were
allowed to plan our own adventures for the day or relax as we saw fit.
In the morning, we actually woke up early. This was because earlier in the week, Brice
had suggested that we go on a tour of
the various pastelerias (bakeries) nearby our hotel. Thus, we set off early in order to hit as
many pastelerias as possible.
We originally expected that we’d be able to get to at least
5 before we started feeling overwhelmed, but in reality we quit after 2
pastelerias because the pastries we had were so big and filling. At the first
pasteleria, I split a massive, chocolate filled donut with Dave. At our second stop, both Hannahs, Jess, and I
split a caramel filled flaky pastry. It
was amazing! Here are some pictures from
our tour:

After our pasteleria tour, a group of us walked down to the
beach and visited the various artesian shops.
There were so many beautiful handmade crafts and even more amazing were
the low prices that the artists charged for them. We encountered everything from wooden
carvings that said “Te Amo Mama” (I love you mom) to beautiful jewelry with
precious stones such as garnet and lapis lazuli that would have cost
significantly more in the US. Finally,
we returned to the hotel and rested for awhile before hanging out with some of
the Chilean students from the university.
